MXR or also known as MXR Pedals creates and distributes guitar effect units. The company was founded originally by Keith Barr and bit later Terry Sherwood , in 1973. The duo based the MXR Pedals in Rochester, New York and is now trademarked by Jim Dunlop. He continues to produce new guitar effects himself to add to the MXR line of products. This company which originally entered into the effects market developing rugged and tough stompboxes that were small in size and provided simple utilitarian designs now continues to define many brands such as Dyna Comp and Phase 90.

The MXR Pedals group continues to bring new and innovative pedals to the market. Dunlop recently added a new line dedicated just to base effect boxes such as the Bass Envelope Filter and Bass Octave Deluxe of which both has won Platinum awards from Guitar World Magazine and Editor Awards from Bass Player Magazine. They have a custom shop which caters to the recreation of many different vintage models such as the Phase 45.

MXR Pedals are Part of Music History

The very first effect pedal released by the MXR Company was the Phase 9- and was used by the one and only Van Halen in his first 2 albums. Other popular pedals include the Phase 45 and Phase 100 which was also programmable. They are also known for their vintage effect pedals such as the Crybaby wah.

Over the years MXR has released tons of different effect pedals which have been used by artists of all kinds. For those that use power jacks include the Phase 90, Dyna Comp, Blue Box, Distortion, Phase 45, Noise Gate & Line Diver, Phase 100, 6 Band, Envelope Filter, Micro Amp, Micro Chorus, Flanger and Western. They also have a large list of pedals that can be used with an AC power adapter which is very convenient for many musicians. These include Flanger, 10 Band, Analog Delay, Stereo Chorus, Dissertation II and Limiter.
